The Company works on an annual basis to improve the segregation and management of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste at all its facilities by implementing measures such as selective waste collection by cleaning service providers, installation of ecological islands, reorganization of hazardous waste containers, segregated removal by authorized waste managers, etc. The Company also works on a yearly basis to improve the segregation and management of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste at all its facilities by implementing measures such as selective waste collection by cleaning service providers, installation of ecological islands, reorganization of hazardous waste containers, segregated removal by authorized waste managers, etc. Outside storage areas for hazardous and non-hazardous waste are conditioned to facilitate proper segregation and management. In addition, written and visual information will be provided to employees to facilitate proper waste segregation.

By 2022, all waste generated in each work area at each site will have been analyzed and classified, and procedures followed to manage it from its source to its final destination.

Segregation is also carried out in the offices, separating organic food waste from the rest (plastics and cardboard). However, there are no other environments in the Alestis facilities where food waste is generated, other than the areas where employees consume their own food.

Regarding the importance of monitoring the transport of hazardous waste, in 2022 the position of Safety Advisor will be regularized, who, in addition to his advisory functions for the company, will ensure compliance with the regulations on the transport of hazardous goods in optimal safety conditions.

Also in 2022, the Vitoria-Gasteiz plant will continue with the plan for the separation of non-hazardous recyclable waste, which was started in 2021, achieving a reduction of 40% in the amount of waste that can be assimilated to municipal waste per productive hour, compared to 2021, and this is the first year in which it has been possible to separate recyclable plastic (1,440 kg), thanks to the joint effort of all plant personnel and the support of the manager of non-hazardous waste.

For plants using carbon fiber in the manufacturing process, the separation of fresh fiber (hazardous waste) from other non-hazardous waste was significantly improved. This has been achieved through the publication of waste procedures and the training of managers and management teams responsible for segregation in their areas.

At the same time, during 2022, agreements have been signed with the Ecopilas, Tragatoner and Ambilamp foundations, so that these wastes (batteries, toner and lamps, respectively) can be collected at Alestis plants, even if they come from the domestic environment, facilitating this work for the employees.

In the context of the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Law and its new version approved by Royal Legislative Decree 1/2016, of December 16, which applies to Vitoria-Gasteiz and for which it has an Integrated Environmental Authorization (AAI), the so-called baseline report was prepared in 2022, which, among other aspects, included, for the first time, the performance of tastings, sampling and analysis of soil and groundwater. The results of the analysis show that the reference values of the analyzed contaminants are not exceeded and that no effects have been detected in the soil or groundwater. Therefore, the site is suitable for its current use without the need for further investigation.

At Alestis do Brasil, industrial wastes are conveniently separated in color-coded baskets and sent to the Internal Waste Center, where they are classified and separated for compaction and loading. They are then transported to the managers who inspect, weigh and dispose of them according to the most appropriate treatment for each case. In 2022, work continued on the selection of new waste managers with the aim of improving the final treatment of waste and reducing management costs, resulting in an economic saving of 34% (from R$ 800 to R$ 528.70 per ton).

This production plant has a canteen service. In fact, the contract with the company that provides this service includes actions to minimize food waste.

Hazardous waste is transported with an emergency form, which contains all the information on composition, reactivity, vehicles equipped with containment equipment, emergency treatment and contact telephone numbers of environmental emergency centers. There are waste disposal certificates that specify the final destination and treatment of the waste, issued by CETESB-licensed consignees.

Class II non-inert waste is sent, together with Class I waste, to the Spe Tremenbé Ambiental S.A. (industrial landfill). This is a prepared landfill whose entire flow and management comply with all the environmental requirements in force in the national territory, according to the Conama Resolution and the Montreal Protocol.

In 2022, a change was made in the waste disposal unit and in the recycling process, which allowed, among other things, the separation of Class I waste from the landfill.
