Environmental Management
Environmental Management
Environmental sustainability is a key issue in Aciturri's strategy and day-to-day work, as it is for the aeronautical industry.
Initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of climate change and the sustainable use of natural resources are multiplying, thanks to efficient production processes designed under criteria of minimum environmental impact.
This is embodied in the company's Environmental Policy, integrated with the Occupational Health and Safety policy and revised on 1st September 2023, to align Aciturri and Alestis policies in this area. The document, signed by the General Management, includes a commitment to comply with the applicable environmental legislation in force and to minimize any environmental impact that may be caused. It defines the life and health of people and the quality of the environment as one of the basic pillars of Aciturri's operations and supports compliance with Human Rights, especially Article 3 (‘Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of person’).
This policy is publicly available on the website. It is accessible internally through Nexo, a document management platform, and is introduced to recruits during the welcome process. Furthermore, contractors accessing Aciturri's facilities receive it through the access management application.
Aciturri relies on an environmental management system, which allows systematic management of the environmental variable, compliance with the applicable legal requirements and commitments to minimise the impact acquired, and responsibility assignment at the different levels of the organization. It includes a set of operational procedures, allowing the commitments of the Environmental Policy to be integrated into the day-to-day running of the organization.
The design of this management system seeks to involve the entire workforce through the necessary information and training so that they are aware of and carry out safe and responsible practices. The aim is to promote a genuine preventive and environmental culture focused on continuously improving both working and environmental conditions. Health, Safety and Environment Committees are actively involved in environmental objectives, policies and actions (see ‘Health and Safety’ section).
The environmental management system has been designed and implemented according to the UNE-EN-ISO 14001:2015 standard. The certificate scope includes all Aciturri Aeronáutica, S.L.U., Aciturri Aerostructures, S.L.U., Aciturri Aeroengines, S.L.U. and Aciturri Engineering, S.L.U. sites, except Getafe. In 2024, this certification will be extended to the rest of the work centers in Spain.
Initiatives aimed at reducing the impact on climate change and the sustainable use of natural resources are multiplying, thanks to efficient production processes designed with minimal environmental impact criteria.
As stated in the text itself, the company also spreads the principles of its Environmental Policy to subcontractors and the supply chain, providing support and knowledge in preventive and environmental management for those operations derived from its relationship with the company.
The company annually assesses environmental impacts and risks. Mitigation plans are designed and implemented for issues and impacts considered significant and/or unacceptable.
According to this analysis, there have been no impacts on biodiversity or protected areas, and therefore, no specific measures have been put in place.
Regarding environmental risk management, all the facilities have resources designated to deal with and contain any possible environmental spills or accidents.
Specifically, Ayuelas and Vitoria facilities are included within the scope of Law 26/2007 on Environmental Responsibility (priority group III, under Order TEC/1023/2019, of October 10th). Therefore, a specific risk assessment has been carried out. According to the reference regulations methodology and using the tools implemented by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the IDM (Environmental Damage Index) has been calculated.
This calculation resulted in Ayuelas, 646,122€ for the baseline scenario, an incident at APQ (Storage of Chemical Products). In the case of the Vitoria facility, the accidental baseline scenario associated with a potential release of chromium (Cr-VI) into public channels, an event that would cause damage to 1,688,949.40€, is determined. However, in both cases, it is not necessary to establish a financial guarantee, given that an ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System is in place under the exclusions defined by the Environmental Liability Act.
There have been no fines or penalties for non-compliance with environmental regulations in 2023.
